The HellFire Caves near High Wycombe
Learn about the fascinating and slightly eerie world of the HellFire Caves in West Wycombe Hill. Founded and ended by Sir Francis Dashwood, no one really knows what happened in the caves around the 18th century; just that it was the home to the HellFire Club, a name given to the society at a later time. All of the records of the club were destroyed by a poet and Steward of the club, Paul Whitehead. Learn more about its mysterious history!
A family day out at HellFire Caves
Adults and children can explore the tunnels and caverns no matter what the weather. The caves are not like the natural caves we think of, but they are man-made with carefully crafted archways, like those in the corridor of an old building (except you will be up to 100 feet below the famous church that sits at the top of the hill!)
Fun for the whole family
Have a look around the gift shop and relax in the cafe with some homemade cake or a light snack. On a sunny day, the hills make an ideal spot for a family picnic.
